Express Entry

What is Express Entry?

Launched in 2015, Express Entry is a completely electronic, online application process which involves both federal and provincial government, as well as Canadian employers. With Express Entry, Canada is committed to making the immigration process simpler and faster.

Express Entry is an application process for skilled immigrants who want to settle in Canada permanently and take part in Canada’s economy.

Canada’s Express Entry system is a competitive program. It has become the key factor of skilled worker immigration to Canada and one of the most popular immigration systems globally. Only candidates with the highest points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Infinite Access will also offer helpful tips and advice on how to boost CRS scores.

Express Entry applicants can also bring their spouse or common-law partner and dependent children with them to Canada.

Understanding the System

Express Entry is a step-by-step process. It offers an efficient immigration application for key economic immigration programs such as:

Step 1: Expression of Interest

  • create and Express Entry profile which acts as an Expression of Interest (EOI)

  • submit profile to the Express Entry candidate pool

Step 2: Express Entry Pool

  • must be eligible under one of Canada’s federal immigration programs

  • evaluation based on factors such as age, skills, experience, language proficiency, education and others

  • points will be awarded through the CRS

Step 3: Selection

  • candidates with the highest rank in the pool will receive an ITA from the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

Find out if you are eligible to submit an application under the Express Entry program.

When you fill out your Express Entry profile, the Government of Canada asks you where you plan to live. You do not have to settle in that province or territory. However, you must plan to live outside of Quebec. The province of Quebec has its own rules for selecting immigrants. If you are a Provincial Nominee, you must settle in the province or territory that nominated you.

FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER PROGRAM

The Federal Skilled Worker Program is for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently.

You may qualify for immigration to Canada under the Federal Skilled Worker Program if you have a job offer from a Canadian employer and at least one year of full-time, paid, work experience in an approved occupation. International student enrolled in a PhD program or graduates of a Canadian PhD program may also qualify.

FEDERAL SKILLED TRADES PROGRAM

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade.

You may qualify for immigration to Canada under the Federal Skilled Trades Program if you have a valid job offer of full-time employment from a Canadian employer, or certificate of qualification in the skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial or federal authority. You must also have at least two years of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time work experience) in a skilled trade within five years of applying.

CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is for skilled workers who have recent Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents. CEC is one of the fastest routes to Canadian permanent residence.

To qualify for CEC, you must have at least one year of full-time (or an equal amount of part-time) skilled work experience in the last three years before you apply. Self-employment and work experience gained while you were a full-time student do not count towards the minimum requirement for this program. There is no education requirement for CEC but having one does help improve your rank in the Express Entry pool.

CEC is ideal for applicants who graduated in a Canadian college or university. Said applicants are usually allowed to stay in Canada temporarily with a Post Graduate Work Permit.

PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAM

The Provincial Nominee Program is for workers who have the skills, education and work experience to contribute to the economy of the specific province or territory they want to live in. It is for workers who want to become permanent residents of Canada.

Each province and territory have their own “streams” and requirements. Streams are immigration programs that target certain groups such as students, business people, skilled workers, semi-skilled workers and others.

Provincial Nominee Program applicants must meet the eligibility requirements of the province or territory. The criteria by province or territory vary and can change without notice. Infinite Access makes sure that we are up-to-date with all the latest Canadian immigration news and updates so you do not have to worry about missing or outdated application forms.
